Students, looking for a way to build up your portfolio?

Freelance Student Games Designer / Illustrator
£8 per hour
Self-employed vacancy (remote working)

Virtalent is an online workforce platform based in the heart of Birmingham’s Silicon Canal start-up scene. We match busy entrepreneurs and professionals with handpicked UK university students, who help them with any task from social media management to graphic design.

We have been approached by a video games studio which has just secured funding from Creative England to develop a new game.

They require at least one university student or recent graduate to help them with the design process. Our client is looking for an aspiring Graphic Artist to create a “story introduction sequence” set of animations that will tell the games story to the player. This should be created in Adobe Illustrator. The client will provide you with the storyboard but will need you to use your creativity and talents to create something exciting! They are also looking for the same (or another) student to create the game “hub” area. Likewise, these designs will need to be created in Adobe Illustrator or PhotoShop (or similar) and need to be animated.

We are looking for highly organised, hard-working and motivated individuals to work on a freelance basis with us. Excellent time management and communication skills are essential. You’ll have the opportunity to earn a flexible, part-time income to fit around your studies, while applying the knowledge and skills you have developed to the day-to-day work required to help a growing games development company. You can work from the comfort of your own room and generally set the hours you work as this is a project based assignment. (Exact working schedule to be agreed between yourself and the client).

For the right person, there is likely to be further opportunities to work with this company as they grow and develop new games franchises. This is a great opportunity to earn some money doing exactly what you love!

To apply, please email your portfolio to our HR Director: ellie@virtalent.com by midday on Monday 19th January at the very latest. We would encourage you to apply as soon as possible.

Please note that Virtalent is not an employer. If successful in your application you will be responsible for paying your own tax and National Insurance contributions. If you are not currently registered for self-assessment with HMRC, we will offer our advice and guidance to help you with this process before the commencement of any contract formed between you and Virtalent.
