The Consortium of Local Medical Committees in Lancashire & Cumbria is a federation of four autonomous Local Medical Committees (LMCs), providing a range of support services to a wide geographical group of GP Practices, including HR services.
LMCs are the statutory bodies recognised by successive NHS Acts as the representative body of general practice. Membership of the LMC and the consequent support it can offer is open to all doctors working in general practice. LMCs represent GP views to NHS England, the Clinical Commissioning Groups in whose area the LMC is formed and other organisations and agencies. LMCs also work closely with the General Practitioners Committee of the British Medical Association (GPC) which is the national body representing the interests of general practice, conducting national negotiations regarding GP contractual issues.
