Job description

Residential Support Worker – Crisis Response Service Residential Childcare – Cumbria

We are looking for a number of reliable and enthusiastic members of staff to join a residential childcare provider whom offer support and crisis response to young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties. This is an opportunity to work intensively with young people in crisis, offering therapeutic and outdoor activity support to young people in need.

These young people will be between 10 & 18 years of age, you will be working in a mobile response unit, working with young people on short term placements.

You will receive full training of working in residential childcare, this will give you training on working with children and young people in care and would result in achieving a level 3 diploma for children and young people workforce, enabling you to progress a career in this sector.

This crisis response service offers a lot of outdoor activity, this role would therefore be suited to individuals whom have qualifications for outdoor education / instructors. So a passion for outdoor activities is a must and a resilience to working with children and young people with challenging behaviours – sometimes aggressive in nature is also pivotal.

Due to the nature of this work, you will be working on a 2:1 staff ratio with young people and will be expected to work on a shift basis, for instance if you are camping you may be away for 3/4 days at any time, so you must be flexible on working hours. This will involve sleep ins away from home.

As a Residential Support Worker, you will be expected to:

  • Ensure that the young people’s needs are met at all times.
  • Ensure the young people are protected at all times.
  • Ensure compliance with Ofsted frameworks and children home regulations.
  • You must have control of the children to ensure their safety and well-being and assist them in developing acceptable standard of personal hygiene and behaviour.
  • Positive participation in the company’s internal training scheme.
  • Work on a rota shift basis that includes working sleep ins.

Outdoor activities you may be expected to run for the young people;

Kayaking, walking, cycling, rock climbing, camping, fishing, go karting and many more.

This is an opportunity for a full-time, permanent position earning between £15,000 – 18,500 per annum. Sleep in payments would be on top of the basic salary and be paid at £47 per night. You must be a car driver for this position with access to your own vehicle.
